Alabama

Healthcare construction specialist  Robins & Morton of Birmingham, Ala., recently announced the hiring of Jeff Palombo as corporate safety director. He is a 13-year veteran of the commercial and industrial construction industries.

Palombo will support job personnel in all safety matters, perform training and jobsite inspections, and integrate safety protocols in the planning stages of construction projects.

Palombo is a 13-year veteran of commercial and industrial construction. He holds a bachelor's degree in safety science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.

Robins & Morton has completed more than 650 facilities nationwide over a 59-year history, including more than 28 million sq. ft. in total construction.

Brice Building Company Inc. of Birmingham, Ala., has promoted Jimmy Harrison to senior project manager.

Harrison began his career with Brice as a project manager in 1997 and has managed a number of major projects for the firm, including Redstone Village Assisted Living in Huntsville, Ala., and Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston, Ala.

He is currently overseeing preconstruction services for Sanctuary By the Sea and Grayton Villa Townhomes, both located in Grayton Beach, Fla., and an addition to NorthPark Baptist Church in Trussville, Ala.

A Birmingham native, he graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in building science.

Founded in 1931 and headquartered in Birmingham, Brice is a regional contractor and construction management company.

Gallet & Associates Inc. of Birmingham recently announced that  Matt Ebbert has joined the firm as a senior project geologist.

Ebbert has been performing environmental consulting for 12 years with special emphasis in the assessment and remedial design of former manufactured gas plants and industrial facilities including: secondary metal smelting, galvanizing, dry cleaning, wood treating, tubing manufacturing, and power supply.

He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in geology and is a registered professional geologist in the states of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

Stacey Renfroe, a construction materials testing training manager at Gallet & Associates, was certified as an International Building Code( IBC) Special Masonry Inspector in September.

Mississippi

MMC Materials Inc., a Mississippi-based concrete manufacturer, recently promoted Stanley Mangum to vice president and general manager of the Metro Jackson/River Area.

Mangum, a Simpson County native and Copiah-Lincoln Community College graduate, joined MMC in 1996 as a sales manager.

Officers were recently installed on the executive committee of the American Council of Engineering Companies - Mississippi. Members of the 2005-2006 board include President Bob Eley, Eley Engineering of Cleveland; President-Elect William L. Burle Jr., W. L. Tennessee

The NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF) recently installed Susan Carson, a former teacher and educator, as its president at the organization's Annual Trustees Meeting held during the National Association of Women in Construction's (NAWIC) 50th Annual Meeting and Convention in Grapevine, Texas.

Carson, a treasurer employed by Roy S. Jones Construction Co. of Nashville, Tenn., replaced Pat Callicotte, Rademaker Corporation of Louisville, Ky., as president.

Carson said that her involvement and participation in the NAWIC Education Foundation stemmed from her years as a school teacher and her experiences as an educator. She has a master's degree in education from Georgia State University and taught first grade for seven years.

In addition to her involvement in NEF, Carson was active in NAWIC and served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Nashville Chapter. She was also the event planning coordinator for Tennessee's Construction Career Days, a three-day event attracting more than 1,500 high school students designed to recruit and educate young people to careers in construction.

Darline H. Johnson, executive director of NEF, said that Carson brings a variety of admirable qualities to her role as president.

"Susan is able to assess all sides of an issue and make a wise decision," Johnson said. "She is a strong leader and is exactly what NEF needs at this point in time to take us to the next level as an organization."

The NAWIC Education Foundation was founded in 1972 by volunteers from the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) who saw a need for quality training programs in the construction industry.

Bovis Lend Lease of Nashville, Tenn., recently announced the appointment of Joe Gordy as director of business development for the healthcare market sector.

Prior to joining Bovis Lend Lease, Gordy was the director of business development for Centex Construction. Joe is a member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), Kiwanis Club and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He received his bachelor's degree from Mercer University in Macon, Ga.

He has more than eight years of healthcare construction experience and is co-owner of The Grape, a new restaurant in Nashville.

Bovis Lend Lease has more than 88 years of experience in the construction industry.

James Collins of  Kimley-Horn and Associates of Memphis was elected and installed as president of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee.

Ed Hargraves of Askew, Hargraves, Harcourt & Associates of Memphis was elected and installed as secretary.
