Ray Bell Construction begins largest job in TDOT history

Ray Bell Construction Company Inc. of Brentwood, Tenn., recently announced plans to begin construction in the Knoxville area after receiving an $85 million dollar construction contract. This is the largest construction project in the history of the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The project involves a series of bridge and road improvements in the Knoxville area, primarily Hall of Fame Drive and a reconfiguration of James White Parkway.

All contractors had to be pre-qualified to bid, as well as have a previous highway contract of more than $40 million.

With offices in Brentwood, Tenn., and Gulf Shores, Ala., RBCC performs commercial, residential high-rise, infrastructure, correctional facility and heavy construction.

CHC Mechanical receives state safety award

Neeley announced recently that CHC Mechanical Contractors of Cookeville, Tenn., was chosen to receive the Governor's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health.

CHC was the only mechanical contractor in the state to earn the distinction.

The Governor's Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours during a calendar year without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict his normal job activities.

The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.

CHC Mechanical Contractors works with HVAC, plumbing and pipe fitting.

The company has worked since January 2003 without a lost time or restricted duty injury.

As of July 26, employees had worked 627,000 hours without a lost time accident.

Commissioner Neeley presented the award to CHC Mechanical Contractors President and CEO Garry Floeter and Safety Director Glenn P. Spann at the 28th Annual Tennessee Safety and Health Congress held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville.

Summit Contractors to build Providence Place in Kingsport

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Summit Contractors recently broke ground for D. P. Builders in Kingsport, Tenn.

Providence Place Apartments will house 32 units in four buildings spanning 29,952 sq. ft. of living space.

Summits' Montgomery Division Senior Vice President Bill Reneau recently stated that Providence Place Apartments is overseen by project manager Jim Barnes. Barnes & Co. of Columbus, Ga., handled all architectural documentation for the brick-framed project.
