South Central’s Top 120 Specialty Contractors

Revenue grows in wake of construction boom

The five-state South Central region’s Top 120 specialty contractors had nearly $2.4 billion in regional revenue, according to data compiled by South Central Construction magazine.

In the magazine’s Top 120 Specialty Contractors list, specialty contractors with a permanent office in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Tennessee are ranked by their 2007 regional revenue.

The largest specialty contractors to make the list were Excel Group Inc. of Prairieville, La., and Industrial Specialty Contractors LLC of Baton Rouge, which tied for the top spot at $115 million; followed by The Newtron Group Inc. of Baton Rouge; Ivey Mechanical Co. of Kosciusko, Miss.; F. L. Crane & Sons Inc. of Fulton, Miss.; and YTG LLC of Tupelo, Miss.

In the breakout rankings, the Top 5 electrical contractors are Industrial Specialty Contractors, the Newtron Group, YTG LLC, Excel Group Inc. and MMR Group Inc. of Baton Rouge.

The Top 5 mechanical contractors are Ivey Mechanical Co.; Excel Group Inc.; Hardy Corp. of Birmingham, Ala.; Multi-Craft contractors of Springdale, Ark.; and Bernhard Mechanical Contractors Inc. of Lafayette, La.

To develop the ranking, South Central Construction mailed surveys to an exhaustive database of companies identified as potential top specialty contractors.

Sources used to create the database include McGraw-Hill Construction Dodge, various economic development agencies and construction associations, and back issues of Engineering News-Record and South Central Construction. Every effort was made to obtain accurate and complete company information and the information was verified with contractors.

We would like to thank the companies, associations and individuals that assisted us in this effort. Without them, these rankings would not be possible.
