Goodwyn, Mills & awood moves to Battle House Tower

Interior design is one of Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood’s specialties. As a result, the firm recently relocated its Mobile office to a specially designed 15th floor suite in newly opened Battle House Tower.

The 4,800-sq-ft suite features the firm’s geometric circle in square logo inlaid in variegated stained finishes of red oak, which mirrors the ceiling logo design of back lit aluminum and coated steel. Completing the entrance experience, behind the reception counter, is a specially designed wall covering of the circle and square logo.

“The uniqueness of Battle House Tower’s beautiful bird’s eye views of Mobile Bay and downtown created in us a desire to bring outside inside for our approximate 25 engineering and architecture professionals. As a result, our interior design team selected a demountable clear and frosted glass partition motif, providing an open feel, maximizing the flow of natural light and capitalizing on the city vistas.Immediately as you enter our interior lobby, there is a view through to a board room with floor to ceiling windows showcasing the exterior view,” said Jim Walker, director of architecture, Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood-Mobile office.

Brice Building Co. completes Birmingham diabetes clinic

Brice Building Co. of Birmingham has completed the Rheumatology, Diabetes and Endocrine outpatient clinic for The Children’s Hospital at their Park Place North Facility in Birmingham.

The project included new clinic space for pediatric diabetes and endocrinology as well as rheumatology, which the state of Alabama had been without a pediatric specialist for the past five years.

This project was fast tracked from the beginning.  Documents were issued in four packages, starting with the slab, clinic fit-up, lab and imaging fit-up, and finally the lobby fit-up to allow the project to begin while the design was being completed.

Brice started work the day slab drawings were received and were able to meet the aggressive schedule and turned the space over on time. The first patients were treated in fall 2007.

Headquartered in Birmingham, Brice Building Co. is a regional contractor and construction manager established in 1931.
