Jacksonville State accepts bids on stadium expansion

The Jacksonville State University board of trustees voted last week to begin accepting bids for the construction of a $38.4 million expansion of Paul Snow Stadium, including a housing village which will provide almost 400 beds in student suites housing primarily four students each.
Plans for the expansion have been drafted by McKee and Associates, a Montgomery, Ala., architectural firm.
“The expansion is a six-story building with a dormitory housing village on the first four floors and a press box and luxury suites tower on the upper two floors,” says Jacksonville State Public Relations Director Patty Hobbs.
About 5,000 seats, including 1,026 chairback models, will be added to the stadium, including a new club seating level with skyboxes and new seats in the east end zone. When construction is complete, the stadium will have the capacity to seat up to 21,000.
The stadium project will also involve the relocation of the RV parking lot with 38 spaces, the construction of an entry plaza and a souvenir sales area.
The project is slated for completion within two years.
“Jacksonville State President William Meehan would like the dormitory/stadium project finished so that students can move in by fall term 2010,” Hobbs said.
