Flintco receives national partnering award for Pollock prison

Flintco Inc., with offices in Memphis and Springdale, Ark., was honored recently by  the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) as a Special Recognition Winner of the 2007 Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award.

The award was given based on Flintco’s successful partnering program on the $93.5 million Federal Correctional Institution-Medium Security (FCIM) project in Pollock, La.

“Flintco has been committed to the principles of partnering before it became an industry ‘buzzword,’” said Tom Maxwell, CEO of The Flintco Companies Inc.

Partnering is a process of engaging all parties vested in the project from its inception throughout development to ensure ongoing focus on the project goals and continuous improvement of delivery to benefit the project.

This design-build project is located on 123 acres and was commissioned by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

It comprises 14 separate structures including three general housing buildings comprised of four levels each and a two-story special housing unit.

The Oklahoma City office of Rees Associates Inc. provided the architectural design for the project.

The Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Awards were presented by AGC President Harry Mashburn at a special AGC Partnering Awards luncheon held March 21 during the AGC of America’s 88th annual convention in San Antonio, Texas.

ABC’s Meyer addresses Bayou Chapter

David Meyer, national chairman of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recently visited New Orleans to tour the city’s recovery and to speak to ABC Bayou Chapter members at the chapter’s monthly luncheon meeting.

More than 120 people attended the luncheon event, which was held at historic Commander’s Palace Restaurant. Meyer addressed issues including the state of ABC nationally and the pace of the city’s recovery.

Meyer noted that the growth in local ABC membership had exceeded the national ABC average and congratulated the Bayou Chapter for its membership development efforts and success.

Meyer also congratulated the chapter for its high percentage of Eagle award winners in the Excellence in Construction awards program. The Eagle is the highest national award a contractor can receive.

Of the 41 Eagles awarded among ABC’s 79 chapters, four went to Bayou Chapter members. Eagle winners included DonahueFavret Contractors Inc. Durr Heavy Construction LLC, Gibbs Construction LLC and Performance Contractors Inc.

The dangers of recent actions by organized labor to impose the Employee Free Choice act were noted by Meyer as he urged members to contact their U.S. Congressmen to voice opposition to those efforts.
