Louisiana AGC’s Alexandria District holds annual Scholarship Golf Tournament
The Louisiana AGC - Alexandria District held its 16th annual golf tournament on Sept. 12 at Oak Wing Golf Club in Alexandria, La. Proceeds from this event fund four scholarships for construction or engineering students from central Louisiana.
Students were recognized as scholarship recipients during a brief ceremony before the tournament.
As the students were being honored, the AGC membership also paid tribute to four local contractors, by naming the scholarships in their memory. Heath Michel, who is currently a civil engineering student at ULL and a graduate of Avoyelles High School, received the Max M. Merrick Sr. Memorial Scholarship.
Chris Karmales, a Pineville High product and now majoring in mechanical engineering at Louisiana Tech, was honored with the J. E. Ratcliff Memorial Scholarship.
The third student to be recognized was Buckeye High graduate Morgan Dyer, who is studying civil engineering at Louisiana Tech. Morgan received the Charles R. Westerchil Sr. Memorial Scholarship.
The M. D. Descant Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Clayton Eagles, a civil engineering student at Louisiana Tech and a graduate of Pineville High.
Family members of the honored contractors were present to hand out plaques and scholarship checks to the students.
LSU student design wins ASLA award
The American Society of Landscape Architects recently announced the winners of the 2008 Student Awards.
Louisiana State University students Conners Ladner, Christopher Barnes and Robert Bass were presented an award for their landscape design entitled “The Lower Ninth Ward and Bayou Bienvenue: An Inherent Opportunity.”
Faculty advisor is Cat Marshall.
Representing the top student honors in the profession, ASLA presented the awards to 20 projects from 11 colleges and universities at the Oct. 6 ASLA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.
