Corrections Corp. of America announces expansion plan in Mississippi

Corrections Corp. of America of Nashville, the nation’s largest provider of corrections management services to government agencies, announced recently its intent to increase the total capacity of its Adams County Correctional Center in Adams County, Mississippi, which is currently under construction, by an additional 564 beds.

Upon completion of the additional beds, the Adams County facility, located in Natchez, Miss., will have a total design capacity of 2,232 beds, at a total construction cost of $135 million. The additional capacity means greater economic stimulation to southwest Mississippi, bringing increased jobs and greater tax revenues.

With the expansion at the Adams County facility, which represents CCA’s fourth facility in Mississippi and the company’s 67th nationwide, the Adams County Correctional Center will employ more than 300 individuals, almost all of whom will be recruited from the southwest Mississippi region.

The exact number of employees generated by the expansion depends upon the ultimate government customer and specific contract.

As a separate sign of economic stimulation, CCA is currently completing the last phase of a major expansion of nearly 1,600 beds at its Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Miss. The company completed a 720-bed expansion of this facility during fourth quarter 2007.

The latest expansion of 848 beds is expected to be completed during second quarter 2008 at an estimated incremental cost of approximately $52 million. Following the completion of these expansions, the Tallahatchie facility will have a total design capacity of 2,672 beds. CCA has contracted with the state of California for utilization of the Tallahatchie facility.

H&E Equipment Services celebrates grand opening of Mississippi facility

In April, H&E Equipment Services celebrated the grand opening of its newly constructed, full-service facility in Jackson, Miss. On hand to take part in the event were more than 750 customers, manufacturers, employees and neighboring businesses.

The event kicked off with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony, after which attendees enjoyed a selfguided tour of the facility, exhibits, equipment demonstrations and a crawfish boil and barbeque buffet.

Located at 4200 I-55 South in Jackson, Miss., the new 30,000-sq-ft facility is located on 6 acres. The new facility features eight service bays that are serviced by two 10-ton overhead cranes, a fully-stocked parts warehouse and equipment sales and rentals offices. The H&E Jackson branch offers new and used equipment sales, a large equipment rental fleet and in-house and mobile service and repair.

“The new H&E facility in Jackson improves our overall ability to provide phenomenal service and support to our customers throughout the state of Mississippi,” says Dustin McCain, H&E Jackson branch manager. “It also shows our commitment to be the number one full-service dealer in our area offering sales, rental, parts and service.”

The H&E Jackson branch is an authorized dealer for several equipment manufacturers, with capability to service and provide parts for nearly all brands.
