Alabama
Dunn Building Co. LLC of Birmingham, Ala., recently
announced the hiring and appointment of Douglas C. Miles as
its newest senior project manager. He will bring his industrial
process experience to Dunn, where he will manage heavy industrial
projects, beginning with Dunn's Cullman Casting project.
Miles is an engineering and construction industry veteran,
having worked with leading international firms including most
recently Mustang Engineering and Washington Group/Rust/Raytheon
Engineers & Constructors.
He is a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of
Florida International University with a degree in construction
management.
Dunn Building Co. is a leading provider of industrial facilities
procured through design/ build and is headquartered in Birmingham.
Jackie "Shane" Garner was named the fourth
recipient of Birmingham-based Superior Mechanical's Robert
M. Ramsay Award. Established in honor of one of the firm's
founders, the Ramsay award is given annually to an employee
who exhibits exemplary performance throughout the year.
Garner was selected by the company's foremen on the basis
of his dependability, work ethic and superior attitude. He
currently serves as the foreman of the DeKalb County Jail
project in Fort Payne, Ala. Garner has been associated with
Superior for more than three year. He is a licensed master
plumber and gas fitter and holds a certification in medical
gas installation.
Shane and his wife, Pam, just returned from a four-day cruise
to Cozumel as paid vacation associated with his selection.
Tom Parish, the firm's executive vice president, presented
the award to Garner at a recent company meeting at the Bruno
Conference Center of St. Vincent's Hospital.
Brian Savage has joined the Birmingham office of
Brice Building Co. as business development manager. Savage's
initial responsibilities will include project management of
various projects at The Children's Hospital, marketing oversight,
business planning and prospective work development.
A native of Mobile, Brian is a graduate of the University
of Alabama at Birmingham with a bachelor's degree in industrial
distribution. Prior to joining Brice, he was vice president
of operations, capital purchases and equipment sales for Willoughby
Contracting Co. and was also a sales representative for Cowin
Equipment.
He is a member of Associated General Contractors of Alabama,
Alabama Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors and
the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers.
Chuck Harris, Custom Lumber Co. of Dothan, Ala., was
elected the new vice president of the Southern Cypress Manufacturers
Association. SCMA members voted for the new officers at the
association's Annual Meeting on March 13 at The Charleston
Place Hotel in Charleston, S.C.
The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association is a non-profit
organization with 33 member companies dedicated to the promotion
of cypress building products to trade professionals and consumers.
Arkansas
Sarah Henderson has joined Tucker Sadler Architects
as a senior interior designer based in the firm's office in
Rogers, Ark., announced managing partner Greg Mueller.
In her new position, Henderson works closely with the partner-in-charge
of the firm's interiors group to develop design concepts,
facility programs and space planning for commercial and retail
projects. She currently is involved with designing interiors
for the Church at Pinnacle Hills, a 169,734-sq.-ft. church
under construction in Rogers.
Previously, she served four years as associate interior designer
for Allison Architects Inc. of Little Rock, Ark., and as an
interior designer for Stephens Inc. of Little Rock.
Henderson has been the recipient of a number of design awards
throughout her career, including the 2005 Merit Award from
the Arkansas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects
(AIA) for the interior design of Wakefield Elementary School
in Little Rock.
She also has received three awards for design work for the
Little Rock-based advertising agency Mangan Holcomb Rainwater
Culpepper, including the 2003 Arkansas AIA Merit Award, the
2003 Gold Award from the South Central States Chapter of the
American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and the 2003
Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award from the Arkansas
Psychological Association.
Henderson earned her bachelor's degree from the University
of Arkansas in Fayetteville and is certified by the National
Council of Interior Design Qualifications. She is an advisory
member of the University of Arkansas Interior Design Advisory
Board, chair of the university's Interior Design Junior Advisory
Board and a professional member of the ASID. She also is a
member of Arkansas Young Professionals.
The Arkansas Society of Professional Engineers recently
named Herbert J. Parker with Garver Engineers of Little
Rock, Ark., as Engineer of the Year for 2005-2006.
He is the firm's surface transportation group leader and
directs a staff of 25 engineers and technicians.
Parker has been a partner in the firm since 1992 and was
named vice president in 1999 and corporate secretary in 2000.
East-Harding Inc. of Little Rock recently announced
the following additions: Andrew Thomason, site superintendent;
Randy Crocker, field engineer; Darrell Tessman,
office engineer; and Phillip May, office engineer.
Louisiana
PSI Baton Rouge recently added Jensen Esneault
as a staff engineer. Esneault is a graduate of Louisiana State
University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture.
PSI is an independent engineering testing firm and one of
the largest consulting engineering firms in North America,
with approximately $200 million in annual revenues.
PSI provides a wide range of environmental engineering and
testing services, including environmental consulting, geotechnical
engineering, construction materials testing and engineering,
industrial hygiene services, facilities and roof consulting,
and specialty engineering and testing services.
PSI, headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., a Chicago suburb,
operates from 125 offices in North America, with more than
2,500 employees.
Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development
(DOTD) recently recognized three employees for exemplary
service.
Anthony M. Culp, DOTD aviation director, and James
B. Frederick Jr., DOTD attorney supervisor, have been
named 2005 recipients of the Charles E. Dunbar Jr.
Career Service Award, sponsored by the Louisiana Civil Service
League.
Salvador F. Faldetta, former DOTD section head of
financial services, now retired, was also honored as the 2003
Dunbar Award recipient during a special ceremony and reception
for the three today at DOTD headquarters.
The three received commemorative plaques at a luncheon April
4 in New Orleans.
Michael Bridges, DOTD undersecretary for management
and finance, lauded the trio for their contributions, which
"speak to the values to which DOTD and its workers aspire,
including excellence, leadership and accountability in public
service."
Daniel E. Sullivan, executive vice president of the
Louisiana Civil Service League, helped to recognize the recipients.
Culp joined DOTD in 1993 as an area aeronautical specialist
after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was promoted to aviation
director in 1996, where he is responsible for compliance to
state and federal regulations at more than 650 airports and
other aircraft landing areas in the state. He was also instrumental
in the establishment of the department's intermodal division
and developed cost- and time-saving initiatives in the aviation
section.
Frederick, a DOTD employee for more than 26 years, joined
its legal section in 1979 and moved through the ranks to his
current position. He has been active in the community through
his work at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and with the
Kiwanis Club.
Faldetta, who retired with 36 years of state service, joined
DOTD as District 62's first district accountant in 1971 after
working for the Department of Health and Hospital while still
in college. He became section head of financial services in
1996, the position from which he retired. His community work
includes service as president of the Rose Memorial Cemetery
and as grand knight of the Hammond Council of the Knights
of Columbus.
Group Industries, a Baton Rouge-based industrial and
commercial contractor, recently announced promotions in its
two subsidiary companies, Group Contractors LLC and Arrighi
Simoneaux LLC.
Kirk Johnson was named vice president and general
manager of Group Contractors LLC and Arrighi Simoneaux LLC.
He is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the division's
business processes, including estimating, construction, purchasing
and accounting for both companies. He previously served as
vice president of operations for Group Industries.
Shane Kirkpatrick was promoted from estimating manager
to operations manager and is responsible for marketing, facilitating
divisional communications, establishing structure, policies
and procedures for new markets and territories for Group Contractors
and Arrighi Simoneaux.
SJB Group LLC recently announced that Thurlow W.
(T. W.) Parish III has joined SJB Group's Land Surveying
Division as senior project manager. In this role, Parish will
manage projects and profitability, develop and negotiate proposals
and contracts, maintain key client relationships, assist with
service quality, perform project review and control and represent
SJB Group in professional organizations.
Parish joins SJB Group after recently retiring from the Louisiana
Department of Transportation and Development with 35 years
of service. During Parish's tenure with DOTD, he held several
positions with increasing responsibility, including party
chief, field survey supervisor, project manager, and location
and survey section administrator.
Parish is a licensed professional surveyor in Louisiana with
more than 40 years of experience, specifically in land and
boundary surveying, topographic route location surveying,
geodetic and control surveying, hydrographic surveying and
property acquisition surveying and mapping.
Garner Morales, SJB Group Land Surveying division manager
said, "We are pleased to welcome Parish to our Land Surveying
Division. He brings to SJB Group a wealth of knowledge and
experience of immeasurable value."
Stacie Caldwell, architectural and contract sales
manager, Armstrong Building Products of Baton Rouge,
was among nine winners of Armstrong World Industries' Chairman's
Award. She was honored by Armstrong Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer Michael D. Lockhart at the company's annual recognition
banquet at the Armstrong Manor in Lancaster, Pa.
The Chairman's Award is the highest honor an Armstrong employee
can receive. It represents the impact each recipient has made
on dramatically reducing costs or increasing the revenues
of the company. The award winners represent Armstrong organizations
throughout the world.
Caldwell earns a 2005 Chairman's Award for her consistent
sales performance at the Architectural, Contract and Distributor
levels. She joined Armstrong in 2000 and since then has almost
doubled sales with her six largest customers.
Mississippi
Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) recently
recognized a contractor from Mississippi for its dedication
to advancing careers in construction. The third annual "Supportive
Contractor" Awards were presented during ABC's 2006 National
Convention in Las Vegas.
The awards are supported by ABC's educational affiliate,
the Trimmer Education Foundation, and recognize ABC contractor
members who have championed careers in construction in both
skilled crafts and construction management education.
Mike Rozier of Mike Rozier Construction in Hattiesburg,
Miss., was recognized for his outstanding support of the University
of Southern Mississippi's (USM) ABC student chapter. Rozier
has been involved with the student chapter since its inception
in 1982. He is a graduate of the program at USM and works
closely with students to provide mentoring, organize jobsite
visits, host industry speakers and promote ABC and the merit
shop philosophy. His company is a member of ABC's Mississippi
chapter.
"Mike Rozier has been active with ABC on both the local
and national levels," said Darnall. "In addition
to his continual mentoring of the students at the University
of Southern Mississippi, he also served on ABC's Student Chapters
Committee and played a key role in developing the ABC Student
Construction Management Competition, which has grown year
after year and this year boasted a record 23 teams. It is
only fitting that Rozier would receive his 'supportive contractor'
award during the same ceremony that honored this year's Student
Construction Management Competition winners.
"The active involvement of Mike Rozier should remind
contractors everywhere that in spite of busy schedules, it
is important to take time to give back to the next generation
of construction industry leaders," said Darnall.
The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
has announced the selection of 31 members for induction into
its Council of Fellows, among the highest honors the society
confers each year.
Selected from the south central region was Susan Clopton
Case, ASLA, with Case & Associates of Madison, Miss.
Members of the ASLA Council of Fellows are recognized for
their extraordinary work, leadership, knowledge and service
to the profession over a sustained period of time. The new
fellows will be formally inducted during the ASLA Annual Meeting
in Minneapolis on Oct. 7 and will thereafter use the suffix
"FASLA" after their names, denoting recognition
of their achievements by their peers.
Tennessee
Kuebler Builders Inc. of McDonald, Tenn., has added
two new employees to its team, further enabling the company
to continue to meet the demands brought on by an ever growing
client base.
Gary D. "Happy" Schimpf was added to the
staff as a marketing/expeditor. Schimpf will focus primarily
on marketing for new development in the Southeast. Additionally,
Schimpf will perform office duties pertaining to bids, contract
administration and management.
Schimpf is originally from Chattanooga and most recently
was a partner in an athletic flooring company.
David Fagan has been added to the staff as chief estimator.
Fagan will focus on new construction of commercial and industrial
areas. Fagan will also provide expertise in the management
of large projects from estimating to completion.
Fagan is originally from Great Britain but has spent most
of his adult life in the United States. He most recently moved
here from Michigan where he was the senior estimator of pre-construction
services with the Taubman Company, a regional shopping mall
developer. Fagan has been in the construction/development
industry for more than 20 years in a variety of positions.
J. E. Crain of Nashville recently announced the addition
of Jack Shelton as senior project manager. He brings
35 years of experience in the construction industry, specifically
the healthcare industry.
Additionally, J.E. Crain would also like to announce Joe
Baskerville, project coordinator. Baskerville is a graduate
of the MTSU Concrete Management Program. Loren Lindsay also
joins J.E. Crain as superintendent.
